Value-centric Shoppers Save $3.7 Billion in 2010 Using Coupons

Valassis Announces Revenue Growth of 5.2% for the Third Quarter Ended Sept. 30, 2010

LIVONIA, Mich., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Valassis (NYSE: VCI) today announced financial results for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2010.  Quarterly revenues were $572.4 million, an increase of 5.2% compared to $544.1 million for the prior year quarter.  Third-quarter net earnings were $27.0 million, an increase of 95.7% compared to $13.8 million in the prior year quarter.

What They Think : Growth in coupon distribution and usage continues to surge in Q1

Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) coupon distribution in the United States grew 14.1% in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period a year ago (approximately 10% without the timing effect of pre-Easter holiday promotions in the first quarter of 2010). In total, 89 billion coupons were distributed, outpacing the average quarterly volume in 2009 by an incremental 11 billion coupons offered to consumers.

Similarly, redemption increased by 9.7% compared to the first quarter of 2009. Consumers redeemed 850 million coupons in the first quarter of 2010. The sustained growth in coupon redemption volume produced the sixth consecutive quarter reflecting increased usage.

DM News : Stock exchange may de-list Valassis

Media and marketing services company Valassis may become de-listed from the New York Stock Exchange, the company disclosed.

Valassis said it received notice from the NYSE that it was “not in compliance with certain continued listing standards applicable to our common stock.”

A company representative declined to comment further.

The company is below criteria because both the average market capitalization of its common stock over a consecutive 30 trading-day period was less than $75 million and its stockholder equity was less than $75 million.
