Valpak Launches Location Based Coupons with junaio Augmented Reality Partner 

Valpak Direct Marketing Systems / Cox Target Media and junaio today announced that Valpak coupons will now be available on the junaio app, allowing consumers to save money at nearby businesses with geo-targeted coupons that pop up on their smartphones.

With the Valpak coupons on the junaio app, consumers don’t wait to receive coupons, the geo-location coupons are available whenever they want them. The app launches the smartphone's camera and GPS to overlay a set of 3D icons in real-time, showing the available Valpak coupons in the vicinity as the user scans the surroundings, with a radius varying from 5 feet to 20 miles away. The coupons and offers literally “pop up” on the screen.

Facebook Launches Social Buying with Facebook Deals. Confirmed Participants Include: 24 Hr. Fitness, American Eagle, Chipotle, Macy's, North Face 

The rumors are true, Facebook is getting into the hyper-local social buying game with the rollout of Facebook Deals on it's Facebook Places Platform.

According to Digital Journal, which broke the Facebook Deals story 3 hours ago, "four types of deals are available: Individual deals, loyalty deals, friend deals and charity deals. Individual deals target an individual user; loyalty deals offer incentive to get users to come back often (for example, offering a free coffee if the user buys two at previous visits); friend deals to offer incentive to get users to bring in large groups (for example, offering a group of four people a discount at a restaurant); and charity deals."

Google Poised to Make Major Play in Mobile Coupon Business with Google Offers

A recent Mobile Marketer article quotes Google executive Mike Steib talikng about the location based coupon business it plans to build, Google Offers:

Mobile-coupon spending is projected to reach $1 billion by 2011, per Google.

Mr. Steib said that mobile coupons drive business. To take mobile couponing to the next level, various players must agree on a technology that makes the redemption process work better, whether it is 2D bar codes or near field communication and RFID.
