Facebook Launches Social Buying with Facebook Deals. Confirmed Participants Include: 24 Hr. Fitness, American Eagle, Chipotle, Macy's, North Face

The rumors are true, Facebook is getting into the hyper-local social buying game with the rollout of Facebook Deals on it's Facebook Places Platform.

According to Digital Journal, which broke the Facebook Deals story 3 hours ago, "four types of deals are available: Individual deals, loyalty deals, friend deals and charity deals. Individual deals target an individual user; loyalty deals offer incentive to get users to come back often (for example, offering a free coffee if the user buys two at previous visits); friend deals to offer incentive to get users to bring in large groups (for example, offering a group of four people a discount at a restaurant); and charity deals."

Facebook Deals has already signed up many well know national brands to feature deals on its platform including the following national companies that have already issued Facebook Deals related press releases:

24 Hour Fitness

24 Hour Fitness will donate $1 to KaBOOM! for each of the first 50,000 people who “check-in” to 24 Hour Fitness clubs on Facebook Places. The promotion is good now through Dec. 15 and is valid for 420 24 Hour Fitness clubs nationwide claimed on Places.

“Facebook Deals is allowing people to connect at our clubs as we reward them for staying active and we are excited to kick off our participation with a special Deal that supports a good cause,” said Tony Wells, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for 24 Hour Fitness. “24 Hour Fitness is dedicated to making fitness easy; this is a simple way to encourage our members and Facebook’s more than 500 million users to get fit and stay active.”

American Eagle

Customers who check in at any American Eagle Outfitters, aerie or 77kids store will receive 20% off their entire purchase, simply by showing their phone to the AEO associate at the cash-and-wrap counter. Involvement in Facebook Deals is part of the American Eagle Outfitters comprehensive mobile strategy. As a portfolio of lifestyle brands targeting primarily 15- to 25-year olds, the company strives to engage customers where they are—at home, work, school, or at the mall.

Chipotle

Check in at any U.S. Chipotle on Saturday or Sunday, November 13 and 14, and November 20 and 21, and receive a buy-one-get-one entrée which includes a burrito, burrito bowl, order of tacos or salad. Customers must show their smartphone check-in to the cashier when the check-in is made and the offer will be validated.

“Facebook has become a great tool for us to establish and deepen relationships with our customers, and we’re excited to make this offer to the Facebook community,” said Mark Crumpacker, chief marketing officer at Chipotle. “With more than 1 million Chipotle fans on Facebook, we enjoy frequent conversations with our customers about our business and what makes us different. And now with Facebook Deals, we have an opportunity to turn more people on to Chipotle.”

Macy's

Macy’s today announced that it will participate in the launch of Facebook Deals which will offer special discounts when customers check in using Facebook Places. The effort will launch November 4 and be redeemable at Macy’s stores in the continental United States through November 14.

“With a reach that is 500 million users strong, the power and influence of Facebook today is undeniable,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s Executive Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. “As we continue to aggressively pursue opportunities to reinforce Macy’s leadership position within the dynamic social media and location-based movements, the chance to be a part of this launch with Facebook is an obvious win. Not only is it a new way for customers to engage with our brand, but we can thank them for doing so immediately with a special offer they can use while still in our store.”

When customers check in to Facebook Places from a Macy’s location, they will get a pop-up yellow icon that will include an offer for 20 percent off most apparel, accessories, jewelry and select home items or 10 percent off electrics/electronics, furniture and mattresses.

The North Face

The North Face and the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, announced today their participation in the initial launch of Facebook® Deals. Beginning today, The North Face will donate $1 to the National Park Foundation for every individual who checks in at one of America’s nearly 400 national parks or a The North Face retail location.
